Femme du Noir, 2016

Enamel on linen
35'x28' (90x70cm)
Amidst an infinite night sky the golden pictogram references a Venus graphic symbol that is traditionally displayed as a closed circle with a cross that points down. Sometimes it has another name — the "mirror of Venus". This planet has been called the "jewel of the sky" and is named after the goddess of love. In virtually all cultures, from the Pueblo and Maya of the Americas to the Greeks and Egyptians of the Mediterranean, Venus has always represented sacred femininity, motherhood, domesticity and prosperity. "Love and money"are actually simplistic interpretations of the symbol. Grace, charm and beauty are also all ruled by Venus.
