Rapturous Delight, 2016

Enamel on linen
35"x28" (90x70cm)
Here the artist plays with the metaphor of yellow that simultaneously is the colour of the sun and gold. Recognizing its importance, yellow was one of the first colours used to signify a heavenly body and a divine metal with all the meanings that still stem from gold. Its association evidently dates back as far as alchemy does. Aurum, the latin word for gold, is derived from the Greek name Aurora, the goddess of the dawn. Aurora renewed herself every morning at dawn and flied across the sky with winged horses or on her own wings, announcing the morning's arrival. Her siblings consist of a brother (the sun, big circle), and a sister (the moon, small circle). Her energy therefore represents renewal and the new hope that each day brings.
