The potent image of a golden circle is a universal symbol withunlimited meaning. It is a totality of three hundred and sixty degrees, whether in time or in space — "from the womb of mother earth to the tomb of mother earth… the alpha and the omega, the source and the end". It represents the notions of wholeness, original perfection, the Self, the infinite, timelessness, all cyclic movement and God. As the sun, it is masculine power; as the soul and as encircling waters, it is the feminine maternal principle. As a zero in our system of numbering, the circle symbolizes potential or the embryo. As one of the more valued elements, gold represents perfection in all matter and on any levelincluding that of the mind, spirit, and soul.
