Ebony & Ivory, 2016

This amusing painting is dedicated to physical attraction, love and sexual pleasures and upon a closer look the grey and white halves reveal a double lobed heart symbol. Surprisingly, the origin and history of this popular world symbol was inspired by the shape of female buttocks as they appear from behind. Galdino Pranzarone, professor of psychology who studied its symbolism, quoted that the Greek goddess of beauty and love, Aphrodite, was beautiful all over, but was unique in that her buttocks were especially beautiful. Her shapely rounded hemispheres were so appreciated by the Greeks that they built a special temple Aphrodite Kallipygos, which literally meant"goddess with the beautiful buttocks".
