Paul Banyan, 2016

Enamel on linen
32"x28", (80x70cm)
Described in the tall tales of America's pioneer era, Paul Bunyan was the strongest lumberjack in America whose height as a giant was so tall he supposedly could reach the clouds. In folklore, much of North America's landscape was said to have been a result of his actions, a legend whoshaped the United States of America. His many tales include achievements such as creating the Mississippi River with one strike, oil fields spanning to China with one punch, having drank the Great Lakes dry in a bout of thirst, crushed the Rocky Mountains with a single pickax and single handedly caused the vast open expanses in the midwest through his logging.Nonetheless Paul Bunyan is a phantom, an inspirational legend and a symbol of enormity, strength and vitality.
