Moon Queen, 2016

Enamel on linen
28"x35", (70x90cm)
At some point in our lives we have all been captivated by the magical presence and sheer magnitude of the moon. It illuminates the sky and its appearanceis that of a grand beacon of light and mystery. Since its visible cycles mirrored the life of woman, the ancients believed that the moon was the representative of the Triple Goddess. Her three incarnations of Maiden, Mother and Crone were closely matched with the changing faces of the moon. The three-part female figure of the painting represents a complete triad of goddesses symbolized innew (an elongated part resembling the hand), full (head) and old (formless body) lunar phases. As a whole, the moon symbolizes femininity, subconscious, maternity, renewal, receptivity, etc. Not only does the moon have a number of archetypes attributed to its lunar power, it is also associated with mystery, intuition and wisdom.
