By the Sea, 2016

Cloaked in a red cape and hood, the artist depicts a contemplative human figure looking at the foamy waves of the sea and the shapes they create. Greek philosophers believed water to be the original substance from which all things were made. The Koran states:"From water we have made all things" and in the story of the creation (Genesis 1:2) water plays an elemental part.As a symbol of theprimary matter, water is associated withbirth, feminine principle, prima materia and the source of life. Water is also the most common symbol for the unknown, "which lies, as it were, underneath consciousness, so that it is often referred to as the subconscious" (Jung). Standing by the infinity of water means to open your soul to the wisdom of a higher dimension and divine foresight of the invisible.
