Masquerade, 2016

Enamel on linen
28"x35" (70x90cm)
Originating in Italy from Commediadell'Arte (popular theatre in Europe from the 16th through the 18th century) the mask was used to signify different characters on stage. As humans we're always masquerading, putting on different faces for different situations. These masks can change according to the demands of society, family, friends, work and so on. The persona is the face that we show. Wearing a mask is a great talent that requires flexibility, conscious mind and the ability to keep one's own identity with the understanding it can be removed at any time and you can be yourself.
