Spacism, 2016

Enamel on linen
28"x35" (70x90cm)
The interplay of black and white colours represents the contrast between consciousness and subconsciousness much like day and night. White-black interpretations may also include a masculine-feminine component. The masculine component is associated with daytime, activity and the conscious state within mankind. In contrast, femininity is related to nighttime, passiveness and subconscious principle.Hesiod called night "the mother of the gods" because the Greeks believed that night and darkness preceded the creation of all things. It is an anticipatory state which promises the coming of day. While the night is made of meditative rhythms the day is a much faster pace with its goal to attain the greatest possible light and warmth and to disseminate blessings. "Balance each other… like day and night, and that this is the reason why the victory of the good is always a special act of grace" (C.Jung).
